Meeting Agenda
Session or meeting background: The World Health Organization (WHO) and Global Burden of Disease (GBD) group reported that the majority of deaths attributable to air pollution occur in the Asian region. However, despite of devastating situation, many of the Asian countries are still taking air pollution issues for granted. This misunderstanding may originate from limited knowledge regarding air pollution health impact assessment and burden of disease calculation. Although WHO and GBD group are generating precise estimates of the health burden attributable to air pollution, detailed concepts and calculation methods are too complicated for general public and politicians. In addition, because global level air pollution burden of disease are reported without sub-regional level estimation, it is hard for local politicians to specify cities and provinces which needs urgent actions.
Objectives: The workshop aims to increase the overall knowledge of air pollution health impact assessment.
Organizers: Asia-Pacific Regional Forum on Health and Environment (WHO, UN Environment as secretariats) and AIRCAP

Session or meeting background: Asia’s policymakers are gradually integrating co-benefits in their climate and air pollution policies. This interest has led to growing attempts to equip policymakers with the tools and knowledge to quantify co-benefits of improving air pollution and mitigating climate change. Equally important, however, is going beyond quantification and ensuring that results of co-benefits analysis are integrated into concrete policies and action plans. To this end, a regional training workshop is being organized to strengthen capacities of national and local policymakers towards policy integration of co-benefits.
